- Steam : Prepare some steam as you would do for yourself if you had cold or cough. Make the dog inhale the steam. This will clear up the nasal passage and dilate the lungs, allowing the dog to expel phlegm easily.
- Garlic : Peel off garlic, take out a single clove and feed it to the dog. Garlic is antimicrobial, that is it acts against bacteria, viruses and fungi. Some sources say that garlic is poisonous to dogs, but one should consult the veterinary doctor before administering garlic to a dog. However, it has been used since centuries to treat animals as well as humans because garlic is so potent. But, do take care about its dosage. In large amounts , garlic can be harmful to the digestive tract. It can also be given along with food, like bread.
- Healthier food : Give your dog foods that would boost his or her Vitamin C and Vitamin E levels. These two vitamins are very essential in clearing the infection. Vitamin C is in fact a powerful immune booster.
Kennel cough can be transmitted from dogs to humans. That means it is contagious to humans. Babies should stay away from such a dog because they can be easily infected. The person taking care of the dog should take complete precaution, like wearing gloves, mask and sterilizing every equipment that comes in contact with the dog. They would be fine in a few days. It is also important that the infection does not pass on to anyone else.
