Home remedies for hot flashes and night sweats. This condition affects women mostly, particularly in the late middle age. However, hot flashes can affect men too. Hot flashes is a condition like fever, the person sweats profusely and the body is all heated up. It is an elevation of body temperature. It can be relieved to some extent. This is the major cause of night sweats. Hot flashes mainly occurs during sleep and causes profuse sweating.

Home remedies for hot flashes and night sweats :
- Apple Cider Vinegar : Drink a solution of ACV in water. Mix 1 part ACV in 4 parts water. Then drink this liquid. It helps to reduce the body temperature.
- Honey : Take 1 tablespoon honey. It can reduce the discomfort, particularly at night. This can provide relief in night sweat.
- Evening Primrose oil : This oil is derived from a flowering plant. It is high in omega 6 fatty acids which helps women in this condition. It also helps to reduce stress.
- Eat cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, bitter melon and even ice cream. They help the body to lower temperature naturally. Avoid eating things that heat up the body, like warm milk.
- Yoga : Try yoga poses for lowering the body temperature, like the Child Pose. Hot flashes are often a recurring condition. They can go on for years. In this condition, yoga helps to reduce the frequency of hot flashes, reduce the intensity of night sweats and keep temperature slightly lower. That means, yoga is a preventive measure to decrease the number of occurrences of hot flashes in a year.
- Ice cubes : If the heat is excessive, use ice cubes to cool the skin. Rub ice cubes on some places or use ice compress to lower the temperature.
- Clothing : Take a look at the clothing and the bedding that you use. Synthetic clothes promote more sweating and do not receive heat well. Instead use cotton sheets and cotton clothes. Pure cotton is soft and takes heat very well. It can also absorb sweat to a great extent. Once the sweat is absorbed, night sweating reduces and so does the hot flash.
Other remedies for hot flashes and night sweats :
- Include parsley, coriander, mint and fennel in diet.
- Drink sage tea. Sage helps in hot flashes.
- Chamomile tea : Some people experience stress at the onset of hot flashes because the person knows that he or she is going to be in trouble for the night. This compounds the problems. Chamomile tea de stresses the body and thus relieves the discomfort in the whole event of a hot flash and reduce sweating.
Cool water bath is also a nice remedy for hot flashes. But, some people may be averse to taking a cold water bath in case of a hot flash.
Ancient Egyptian remedy for hot flashes is a herb known as Vitex Agnus-Castus, also known as Chasteberry. Lavender flowers were also used to calm night sweats.
