9. Chanca piedra herb ( aka the Stone Breaker )
Chance Piedra is by far the most popular herb in the entire world for kidney stones. It's name literally translates to Stone Breaker.
My story
I have had a very fruitful experience with this herb, worth sharing. My friend once got a kidney stone on his routine ultrasound check up. It was about 3mm stone. During our research, we had come across this herb, and it grows wild in the nursery. So, we went there and the gardener handed us a fistful of chanca piedra. We took it back, washed it, dried it in sun and stored it. A few days later, I prepared a herbal tea for my friend. I used about 2 tablespoon of dried herb in about 400 ml water, boiled it down to 100 ml to make a really strong herbal tea.
My friend drank this tea, and some water on top of it. Late at night, some 5 hours after drinking this, he experienced a sharp pain in the groin. He could barely manage to reach the toilet. When he came out, he was immensely relieved. We figured that perhaps the kidney stone passed, although he mentioned that he hadn't seen anything.
No pain the next day. In a few days, he went for another ultrasound and the report stated "no kidney stone". It was a moment of joy and realization that herbs are immensely powerful.
Chanca piedra can be taken as a herbal tea, 1 - 2 times a day. It can break a kidney stone much quicker then other remedies. However, there are some minor side effects.
Chanca piedra can lower blood sugar levels and can induce hypoglycemia. So, you should eat things that contain some sugar in them, like carrots and sugary fruits.
This herb is also known by other names - Bhumi Amla ( in Hindi ) and also by its biological name - Phyllanthus Niruri. It is also well recognized herb for Hepatitis, a viral disease of the liver.

Kidney stones are relatively easy to get rid of , given the fact that the pain they cause is very intense. These remedies should be able to leach out most of the kidney stones. However, all kidney stones are not the same. They can be different.
How do you get kidney stones ?
These are caused by crystallization of minerals in the urine. Most of us know that calcium has the tendency to crystallize in presence of oxalate to form calcium oxalate stones. But there are kidney stones made of sodium, uric acid, struvite and many others. Each kind of stone requires a specific pH environment to form. However, the main reason for crsytallization and kidney stone formation is probably lack of water or dehydration. This prompts minerals in solution to precipitate out as solids.
So, the key to preventing kidney stones formation may be as simple as drinking more water. Better kidney functioning is also helpful.
