High blood pressure is a serious health issue. But it is not quickly evident, as it is kind of a silent disorder for years. The first symptoms of high blood pressure are headaches, dizziness, light headedness, fainting. Some people may start feeling weak at the knees and there may be a strong need to rest. The problem usually improves with rest, but it springs back up after some time, as it is a chronic condition.

In people , the first signs of high blood pressure can be blurred vision even after eyesight being normal, vertigo ( inability to balance ), a strange sensation of ringing or buzzing in ears called tinnitus, and difficulty exercising or moving limbs fast enough may lead to fainting.

In most people, however, there may be no symptom of high blood pressure at all. This is quite dangerous in the long run. Therefore, one should get blood pressure checked if one if feeling down.

What is considered high blood pressure or hypertension ?

A blood pressure reading greater than 140/90 or at this value is considered high blood pressure. However, it should come out often, not a one time reading. So, if your blood pressure reading are taken twice in 8 hours, and it comes out more than 140/90 , then it is hypertension.

What is this 140 and the 90 ?
Well, these are values of blood pressure in the arteries ( the vessels carrying blood out from the heart ). Higher value points to systolic blood pressure ( when the heart is pumping ). Lower value is diastolic blood pressure , when the heart is relaxed.
