Home remedies for flu ( Influenza ). This is a really a much more problematic disease, very much unlike the common cold. 1. Chicken soup ( the best nutrition )
To reduce the severity of discomfort, like muscle aches and weakness, one can take chicken soup regularly. It is nutritious and good for everybody. If you are vegan, make a warm soup of corn with some high protein food , like soy beans in it. The whole idea is to take a nutritious meal, which is easy to digest.

2. Take sunshine
If there is sunshine, then take time out to sit in it. Sunshine elevates the levels of Vitamin D in body which helps in staying healthier, especially in the time of a flu. If the sunshine is too strong in intensity, you can take intermittent exposures of about 5 minutes each, many times a day.

Vitamin D has been identified to strongly prevent flu, and also speed recovery, in many studies. This brings us to our next home remedy for flu.




3. Eat foods rich in Vitamin D
Well, specifically, it is vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol. These foods are good sources of Vitamin D3 and help the body in recovering fast from a flu.

Any fatty fish, like salmon
Eggs
Any food fortified with Vitamin D. Many kids items are added with Vitamin D. You can look up the food label to find this out.

Out of all these, cod liver oil has a significant impact. Taking 1 tablespoon of cod liver oil twice a day is excellent for recovering health during a flu.




4. Take steam with eucalyptus oil
This is great for the respiratory symptoms. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil ( about 10 drops ) in water when it has boiled. Then inhale the steam. It relaxes the nose and the respiratory passage, reducing the runny nose.
It clears the sinus passage, alleviating headache. One can breathe much better, which is a great feeling after you have been feeling lack of air due to a stuffy nose.

Alternatives - If there is no eucalyptus essential oil at hand, use steam prepared from ginger. Add thin slices of ginger to boiling water and then inhale its steam. The warming properties of ginger provide relief from congestion.




5. Drink more water
At the time of flu, drink slightly more water than the normal daily average amount. This helps the body in performing its tasks. Your body is feeling low and it needs more water to get through the hydration needs. Water helps in alleviating fever a little, as it exerts slight cooling effects. But, avoid drinking very cold water during flu.




6. Drink ginger tea 
Ginger is really helpful in diseases of the respiratory tract. The easiest way to take it is in the form of a relaxing and soothing tea. Drink tea often to get relief regularly.







7. Honey and cinnamon
Mix equal amount of ground cinnamon in honey and make a paste. Eat 1 teaspoon of it every few hours. Honey provides relief from the respiratory symptoms of flu and cinnamon has antiviral activity. Together, they create a formidable home remedy against flu.




8. Garlic
This potent antibiotic is quite helpful in Influenza. Take a clove of garlic every few hours a day, preferably with meals. Also, tie a clove of garlic with a small thread to the collar of upper garment ( shirt, top, vest etc). The smell of garlic keeps entering the nose and this helps in Influenza. Replace the garlic clove after a day.
